i want to use th 40h as midicontroller for ableton live 6 (osx/intell)
only. do i need seriallo / monomeserial or can i connect with mapd0.3
only? i can see some midi input signals at live6 but somehow i can´t
assign them as midi-controller...

and 2. can i connect 40h with the lemur? just want to see those
button-lights on the lemur surface while working with the 40h...

some help would be great!

I can't be of much help cause I'm on a PC but I followed this to get
things working with Ableton 6, SerialXP and Monogrid.ck

mapd isn't really robust at this point since it's unidirectional.
perhaps in the future it'll get an update.

if mapd ever gets pushed again on the mac, i might consider trying to
port it to PC, although i must admit it looks quite intimidating
compared to the relative simplicity of serialio.

back to the original topic - monome serial sends and receives midi data.
with some creativity, you can probably get a nice setup in live using
its own midi and midi tracks and FX, but using something like the
aformentioned monogrid or a custom max/msp patch would probably be alot
more robust with alot less effort. as far as monome serial goes - it
sends midi notes 0-63 on whatever device and channel you select, and it
sets led states via the same midi notes, on a differant selected
device/channel.

also, dont forget monochrome, which is a go-between serialio/monome
serial and Ableton. it is a VST plugin, and is quite nice*,
especially if you are into advanced stepsequencing applications.

* - the forum thinks im trying to post spam, since i used the
word impress1ve (i changed it to "nice" above, and had to spell it funny
here)!
