Does anyone here use Ableton Live Lite and the monome 40 together? I've read that the Lite version has Midi remote control and sync disabled. Pardon my ignorance but would this pose any problems syncing both the monome 40h and Live together? I'm ready to buy ableton live but just can't afford the full version yet. I can get student discount but can't afford that for some time either. So I'm stuck with the option of getting the Lite version off ebay or friends. Any thoughts?

without midi remote you won't be able to map the 40h button presses to launch clips in live. you would still be able to use things like steve's very awesome MonoChrome VST to send midi to instruments in live lite. i have to admit though, that most of what people do with the 40h + live so far is simply recreating the functionality of mlr. and that is because we are already live users and have years worth of song ideas, beats, melodies, effect setups, etc. in live. once you are hooked on using live it can be very tedious and time consuming to get your "stuff" out of live to use in something else like mlr. if you cant afford live i wouldnt sweat it, spend your time learning mlr inside out and you will spend more time making music, and less time doing all the boring tedious stuff like duplicating live clips, moving start markers and midi mapping.

on the other hand, just triggering clips in live and having visual feedback can be pretty useful, without the mlr style follow. i do give ableton respect for creating a really solid app. when more flexibility is introduced, it could be really amazing (with cycling74's help it seems).

Ableton live lite works well if you use MonoAbleMe, monomegrid, etc. The lite version is quite limited but it works fine for most things.
