hello friends,

we've scheduled getting parts for 200 more units, bringing the total run
to 400. then we're going to stop producing the 40h. we'd really like to
move on an design new devices, several of which we've already begun
prototyping. getting these into production is funded by this second run,
so please help spread the word!

despite the fact that the 40h will no longer be produced, we're
dedicated to continuing to support the community here, making new
applications when we can, and providing technical guidance.

mapd is almost here. thanks for everyone's patience.

we're not going to run out any time soon. still 50 units of the first
run available. we'll keep the numbers posted when it starts getting
close.

for use without the 500$ desposible income to get a 40h at the moment,
are you guys planning any similar products in the future? hopefully in a
month or so i will have side money to purchase a 40h myself.

we're working on the 100h (16x16 version), in addition to some other
open-source open-ended interfaces that we'll announce when we actually
have some proven prototypes.

What kind of price point are we looking at for the 100H?

we'll figure that out soon, when we solidify the features and enclosure
materials. we're going the extra mile to make it *really* nice, which
will tack on some cost. but we're planning on making only 100 units, so
we think it's appropriate.

yes, we're excited as well!

help us continue working on the 100h by spreading the word about the
40h. the time we have to spend promoting the 40h comes directly out of
development time for new interfaces. we've appreciated the great help so
far. thanks!

we're still trying to stay ahead of the orders, and we do presently have
units ready to ship immediately.

Sounds good. Actually I kinda hope you guys don't get 100h available
that fast. So have some time to orient with 40h, tailor own patches and
get funds ready for 100h.

NO. The little consumer next my heart says the 100h must be out
TOMORROW! Alas... depending on the price point I may just be stuck
watching demo videos.

that is the most devestating news ive heard since i ordered my 40h.

i've been out of the country since my 40h arrived at my home, but i am
more than excited to utilize it. and with such an announcement of the
100h, i wont have to buy another 40H unless i really want to...which
it's looking like i might do soon anyway :P

ya better order it before they run out. i would be sad if i missed out.

I'm just curious. Can't you design new devices while still
manufacturing old designs as long as they are in demand? I mean, your
design is already there, no more R&D necessary, why not make a few bucks
as long as people are willing to buy it?

Prob b/c they can still make a buck by making new and better items. Its
all about the advancement of the 1's and 0's.

also, after the next issue of ReUp i bet the Monome gets more attention
and will likely boost not only consumer awareness but also sales.
Everyone i've shown this to things its dope.

mostly we want to move on and design new devices.

we assemble/test all units ourselves, which takes quite a bit of time.
we don't have a large backstock of assembled units. we assemble them
constantly.

if we were to have them assembled by another company or hired help, it'd
raise the price.

as we see it, demand is not guaranteed. we expect to sell the 400 units,
but beyond that we're uncertain. there's no way we can produce just a
few units at a time, because parts orders need to be made in bulk to
reduce the price.

we also don't have the capital to produce a larger run. we've budgeted
to cover the research/design/prototype expenses for the next project.
the economics of short-run custom electronics are not lucrative. if we
continued to roll the profits of sales back into production of the same
unit, we'd be assembling constantly for about the same compensation as a
restaurant job.

lastly, we hate the idea of waste.

lastly lastly, the 100h (16x16) will be almost the same as the 40h. the
40h will always stay special and remain supported and developed for, but
we want to move forward.

on the same topic, we're very much looking for contract work. if you
know a company/person who needs a custom interface designed/prototyped
for personal use or mass market, we're available, very capable, and very
fast. it'd help us become more flexible, allowing us to release new
devices faster.

i'd like to stress that we're more of a collective than a company.
hello.
