i've been really interesting in modifying 64step to have 16 step
resolution (for the 256 or a mapped 40h).

i don't think i wanna add more than 7 voices or 8 patterns, so i was
thinking the top left 8x8 would be the pattern grid, the top right would
be soundset (if this is useful?)
the bottom 7x16 would be the pattern editor, then the row in between
would have the left 8 as pattern edit select (like the current top row
in the "steps" mode of 64 step), and the right 8 as pattern playback
position (currently the 2nd row below position/step and edit soundset.

the edit soundset functionality would still be click, since you have to
drag and drop and click the dropdown menu to load the sounds anyways.

right now i have the functionality hacked (though the tempo is accurate
at sub: 8 rather than 4), but i haven't quite figured out how everything
is programmed.

soooooo, i'm trying to track down all of the box/press and box/led sends
and receives so that i can rewrite the interfacing functionality (maybe
change the prefix to /step).

@tehn or peter, is all of the box functionality inside [p sub]?

i don't remember how the guts work, but you'll be happy to know we're
working on the next version which works with any grid size...
