Hello all, Im interested in "rolling my own" monome from scratch.(mainly because i cant wait for them to roll out more logic kits) Any suggestions on: 1. Cheapeast easiest way to get a logic kit PCB printed? (should i acid etch my own, should i leave it to a pro facility and not waste my time with this step?) 2. Pre made shopping list for components in the logic kit ? (as in where to buy all the parts) 3. I want to make a 4x8 monome with at least 4 potentiometers(knobs), Using parts from sparkfun. I like that their buttons are a bit bigger. - They have everything i need to make my own button kit (I think). a.x2- http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=7835 b.x2- http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8033 c.x32- http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=105 I just need to form together my own logic kit along with the spark fun parts. any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

1) easiest is to go with a company. cheapest depends on your day job and how much your time is worth. depending on which way you go, either one of these should be helpful. the eagle library is posted to http://monome.org/40h/kit http://www.pcbexpress.com/ http://max8888.orcon.net.nz/pcbs.htm 2) you could be the first to do it. jameco probably has most of the parts you need. http://monome.org/here/monome40h_thrulogic_plist.txt the only thing you need to worry about with the sparkfun pad kits is that the circuit boards don't have places for diodes (which are used to make sure that there is no ghosting of button presses. mesmer asked about it here: http://forum.monome.org/topic/972 ) you're on the right track. look up things on the partlist by their partnumber.

4pcb.com and 33each.com you'll save yourself a ton of headache by waiting a few weeks, unless you're pretty experienced with this stuff-- though i'm gathering this is a first project for you. i'll look into the kit schedule and post details son.

oh and kevin thank you very much for all the info. Now im on the right track. Think im going to go with PCB express for printing my one board. And I will build a list of all the parts soon and post it. (unless of course someone else wants to beat me to the punch)

again, a part list is here: http://monome.org/here/monome40h_thrulogic_plist.txt it just doesn't tell you where to get everything. unless that was what you meant =P
