I've noticed slight inconsistencies in the timing between steps when I'm
using 64Step. For example, if I have something like a snare sound
playing for three steps in a row, there will be a different sort of
"shuffle" evident each time the timing cursor plays the
sound...sometimes slightly quick, sometimes a bit delayed.

I'm using (my newly repaired! thanks!) 40h in XP with Monome Serial,
though the quirk is reproducible with the older 40h_serial file, as
well.

Do I need to tweak a setting of some sort? I feel like it's just a
hardware/lag issue. Let me emphasize that this quirk is subtle...but
also prominent to discerning beat junkie ear.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Haha, actually, I think I figured it out. The ASIO latency on my
soundcard was set to something like 50 ms, which was creating the
stutter from time to time. I lowered it to 5 ms, although 10 ms seemed
to work equally as well.

So maybe I'll change my question...what latency setting do most people
use?

my setup is based around Ableton Live, with my Edirol UA101 sound card
and ASIO4ALL I get ~5mS latency, sometimes I bump it up around 12mS.

i try to stick with ~10ms for ASIO drivers, i dont need lower than that,
and the lower the latency, the higher the CPU usage. ive been using
built-in audio lately, cuz im too lazy to plug in my soundcard with
crappy vista drivers (buying XP again this week, cant wait!), and for
that i use DirectX with ~25+ms, which is horrible.
