During some "research", I found someone who built his own audio interface: http://www.em411.com/blog/3536/0/Live_SetsDIY_Interface.html There's a video to watch in order to see it in action. It's quite monome-like, but I guess it's not based on any of the DIY-kits. Would be interesting to know where his idea came from.

ahh, i almost knew you were gonna post evans stuff before checking the link. his original one is based on midibox (the one with the plexi-case and round buttons and knobs), the newer one with the bright square buttons i dont know but that one looks more monome-like. ive been bugging him to consider OSC instead of midi since i got my box. i know him online only, but he's a damn cool guy, he posted here once about buying a kit if i remember. also, fwiw he posted his first box on the reaktor forum i think before the 40h was available, although im not sure the actual timeframe. he originally was using a patch that was a modded version of one of my reaktor user lib patches, his setup was really cool when i saw videos and the patch itself, i dont know what hes doing box-wise now but he tells me he's working on some software for the Nintendo DS (music apps ala Nanoloop for the old GreyBrick Gameboy). hey even, are you reading this? keep up the great work!

also, i must say that while the Lemur interface originally was what got me into considering the monome (2-way control), it was Evan's machine that got me literally counting down the days till i could buy a 40h. his stuff is really inspiring. as i said before, im a software guy, so i didnt have the guts to build one, so i thought the monome was the perfect compromise of custom interface meets lazy i-dont-want-to-solder mentality.

I thought someone else here might also be interested in his DIY-box. Sorry if the word "clone" made it sound like I assumed he made a "copy". I just didn't find a suitable and short title for "this guy built something that reminds me of a monome, but with faders and knobs". It was quite late when I stumbled over his page, so I didn't take the time to do some reading about the insides of his creation. Does he offer any information about how to make one of these?

wayyy back evan sent me info on the buttons he was using: http://www.mouser.com/search/productdetail.aspx?R=101-TS5511T26002Rvirtualkey12040000virtualkey101-TS5511T26002R he also divulged that the early 16x16 prototype served as inspiration for his work, so, there you have it. he's done well adapting the idea to his performance.

rooker, clone isnt a bad word really, i was honestly just adding to what you said since i talk to him here and there over the past year or so. sorry if i came off wierd there! like i said, his box is pretty cool, but i think he'd benifit alot from switching from the midi-based setup he uses now, especially someone that mainly uses reaktor, since reaktor's midi out, well, it leaves a bit to be desired, to politely understate it. it's OSC implimentation isnt bad, though, except for the float-only thing. im glad you posted the link here, i think alot of folks here would be interested, especially the kit folks. also, im glad to see him get any exposure, i think its pretty cool the things he is doing (especially his first box, imo that one is just crazy looking, with all the knobs and the plexi case). like i said, his first postings on the Reaktor forum with his controller videos (same one on the link) got me more excitied about the monome/40h than even the first links the people on the Reaktor forum posted to monome site itself. it really shows well how a simple array of buttons and leds can be so limitless and liberating when you think about it (i before was comparing to the lemur, and while that thing is just amazing i think i stil prefer the monome's more open-ended (and open-source) angle towards the custom 2-way OSC-based controller).
