Hello there has been discussion for a group order for a face plate. The most practical solution is to order the plate from Big Blue Saw. Several people have investigated local solution, but all were definitely more expensive. The goal of this thread is to gather people who are willing to participate to this group order. Just put your name in this thread and copy the preceding list, so that the last message always contain an up to date list. If you have any questions, please ask it there: http://forum.monome.org/topic/970 . The plate will have square corners, which make it easier to build a case around it. The holes for the buttons will be the same as on the origninal 40h. There are two options: having the holes to attach the button board to the plate drilled by the machining company or not. If the holes are drilled by the machining company is the easy solution: you just have to find some nice screws, but keep in mind the this will be thru holes so the screw heads will be visible between the buttons. However, some people might prefer to screw and tap the holes themselves. This gives better results from the aesthetic standpoint, but is more difficult to make and requires the proper tools. The second option is the material: aluminium or clear acrylic plastic. Price (excluding shipping and duty costs) quotes: Keep in mind that these price will slighly change until the final order day, but it surely gives a good evaluation ofthe final price. The cheapest solution is that people with close option choices gather on the same order to get a better price. The other solution is to anyway order the plate you wanted initially at a higher cost. after the rush, I guess we have to see how many others will join in. If we're not making critical mass on either aluminium or acrylic, then I'd be willing to switch to alu in order to meet the minimum order for a cheaper group price. but as we're on 4 each for alu and acrylic, let's see if we can get one or two more people for each material before we consider re-jigging things.....

i believe it was clear acrylic, as julien mentioned above, but I would imagine you could paint it any color you'd like.

hey meoff, hang in there - looks like there's a need for at least one more order for alu to get a good price. I know there were a couple more people here in Melbourne who were interested, but at least one is overseas for work at the moment and his kit building is on hold. I'll see if I can chase up some more interest from this end. With six people on acrylic and four on aluminium, one person could shuffle across to alu... I'll think about that, but it would more than double the cost for me, esp with shipping... anyway, let's see if we can get one more person first.

How many people are actually in the US on this list? Just asking cause if you Euro boys are going with Schaffer, than maybe us US boys could go with BlueSaw. I got my Blue LEDs from JAMECO, they weren't cheap, but not outrageously priced. Can't remember the part number off hand, but I suggested them to tehn and they are the ones that are now recommended on the Kit page.

Hello all, So I guess all the alu buyers are aware of the new european option with the Schaeffer company. See: http://forum.monome.org/topic/970#8194 . To sum up: the plate would be in 4mm anodized alu. 4mm is no a problem see (http://forum.monome.org/topic/1139#7621.) . Starting from 5 plates ordered, price delivered in EU is 77.5€ and 78.10€ delivered in the rest of the world (plus possible custom fees...). So I add a new column in the array for this option. I would like to ask every one that wants an alu plate to check the new column, if they are willing to go for the eu option. I remove hole option. Note that Schaeffer can drill and tape the blind holes almost for free, so the EU plate will come with the hole to fix the pcb plate. (For people outside eu, it should be possible to add the "metric" screws, if they are difficult to find.. Concerning the alu order, if we are 5 or more, I am ok to centralize the money, order and dispatch the plates. Concerning the acrylic plate, we just need someone to take the lead. There are 5 people interested and the price for an individual plate is sufficiently low so that no one should have customs problems. As I'm in Australia, US or EU makes no odds to me, however, I would like the blind holes drilled and tapped, so guessing the EU options is looking the best for me.
