i was surprised by how rich the blue looked. i think the led color
should be based on your case to be truthful. what are you planning to
make your case out of tone?

well, you could make white into blue with a "simple" light gel
arrangement
(this: http://www.protectcovers.com/
crossed with this: http://www.stagespot.com/gel.html)

but that might be kindof diffcult, or require fancy spray paint...

good link, that stuff could go under the faceplate, put icons under the
protectcover for a given app. ashley would have to be the 'midi panic'
button icon.

I still don't know what my case will be, best thing I've found is a Tap
Plastics, national chain shop, used them before, ~$150, laser cut
acrylic faceplate, bottom made of 5 pieces of acrylic beveled on the
edges. white would be classy, today I started thinking of clear, maybe
white top with a clear bottom, all acrylic. there's something about
still seeing the electronics that I find appealing. I'm not sure on how
to fasten it all together, I'd like to be able to open it at will and
not worry about fasteners loosening over time. a brushed aluminum
faceplate would be cool too, I have a shop's name but haven't visited
yet.

the hole for the USB port is also a cosmetic hurdle, the logic board
should line up for a clean finish and the holes don't align to set the
USB port to the edge of the LED/button board, so it has to screw into
the enclosure. I haven't taken the time to lay all this out.

until then I found a little cardboard box that's exactly as tall as the
40h and a little wider, that's where it's been living. I used double
sided sticky foam tape to stick the logic board underneath the button
board, back to back, and found some rubber feet to stack up to stand on.

haha i did the unthinkable actually… ebay. but they looked like the same
spec as certain ones on jameco. the mcd was 6000 if that helps. they
seem to be about the perfect brightness actually.

heres a link to the ebay store used:

they call it amber. when I get motivated to do so I might move to blue
or white, or try to swap my LED board for a blank board. doesn't
matter, I made it and love it.

with IR sensors similar to
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=242 (they
share the same manual) these are Sharp 2Y0A02 IY
each sensor takes 1 analog port and does not require reprogramming of
the microcontroller.

tone… i wouldn't trade or swap your leds. those are beautiful! they have
this vintage roland look to them i would almost design your case around
that very feel.

lol yeah, they do look like old roland pads. I love them because
they're mine and at one time it was just a bag of parts. :)

Here's another shot of my Blue LEDs.... The color is a little different
on the picture on the main page. This is just due to exposure settings.
The actual color is a value probably in between the two pictures.

yep, those are the red ones. My housemate is machining a faceplate out
of birch ply right now. I think he is doing the case with cherry, or
something like that. I am really excited to see it, even though it won't
really be all together until I get some stuff from mcmaster on tuesday.
