I am trying to rewire from Max/Msp Runtime into Live... However when i
select the 'ad_rewire' driver in mlr dsp options(or flip, for that
matter) i get a message that says "Unable to load ReWire DLL.
•error:ad_rewire:please check ReWire installation and Restart Max/MSP".

and the program doesnt run when hitting the dac (if its on 'rewire'
mode)..

i have done this before successfully on my desktop computer, however
this wont seem to work for my new laptop...
any suggestions?? i hope i explained the problem clearly...thanks!!

might want to reinstall max/msp? try installing the full version, not
just the runtime.

i re-installed Max/MSP down from 4.6.3 to 4.6.2, since thats what i was
running on my desktop computer... it still didnt work... It worked fine
with the Runtime before...

At any rate, isnt the full version of Max/MSP a 30-day demo only?
I will try installing full version tonight. Thanks!

full version has the runtime included. it just seems to install more
stuff in general?

ok... now it gets even weirder... so i installed the full version of
max/msp.
setting it to rewire on dsp options no longer killed the dac...HOWEVER,
as soon as i run Live, both programs (Live and Max/Msp) unexpectedly
quit. simultaneously. Like I said before, this worked on my desktop
computer fine, but for some reason its an issue on my laptop... HELP!

this now looks like it'd be worth looking at the cycling74 forums. it's
outside our scope and clearly is a max/msp + live problem.

anyone else figure this problem out? i recall somebody mentioning load
order in the past. like ableton first, then max/msp? or the other way
around.

Yes, you want to load Live first, as the ReWire host. Once it's set up
and working once though, it seems (for me anyway) to remember the
settings so that Live has a MaxMSP option in its audio in dropdown menu
no matter what order I've started things in.

as tehn said, id check in with cycling 74's forum and support. since
you reinstalled max/msp, maybe you should try reinstalling ableton next?
i dont know at all what the problem is, but if i had to make a guess, id
say that there is either a missing file or one of your rewire or other
dll libraries got messed up.

out of curiousity, does rewire work the other way around? meaning,
starting max first, then ableton? i think both apps can be both rewire
master or slave apps.

again, id check in with Cycling, i doubt it is an Ableton issue,
although it is possible. still, ive found cycling support to be very
helpful, and the developers seem to monitor the forums, which is nice.
actually, when 4.6.2 came out, i posted over there the issues with the
serialport external not working right (it freezes up), and i got a reply
from jeremy bernstein from cycling, along with the updated serialport
external, within 24 hours.

yeah.. i actually tried all those things. i reinstalled EVERYTHING, i
started ableton first, then vice versa, and regardless, as soon as i
select the ad_rewire, live quites, then right after max/msp freezes,
then quits.. i'll check the cycling '74 forums... anyway i really
appreciate all your help... i think its amazing what you guys are doing.
Thanks!
