i cant get it to work how to u start the dang thing?
on 01.07.2007 22:59
open nibbler.mxb (careful, not nibble.mxb), press the start window button, raise the slider, and load a sample by clicking "filename (click here to open)" (i think it says that, the new version just says filename, but it's not done yet). that should work...
on 02.07.2007 00:38
oh, you probably don't have Lobjects installed. I think the only Lobject I used was Lswap, so here is a zip of the latest version, with Lswap.mxo included in the folder. i've updated the wiki to reflect this. there are some new features, but it's still not done. endtime still only applies when the sample is looped and presets are coming soon. also, Lobjects are available here: http://arts.ucsc.edu/ems/music/research/Lobjects.readme.html

i get an error: loading old cfm extension disabled (mac MaxMSP runtime) can i do anything about it? regards
on 04.07.2007 18:03
huh.... i have no idea what that means. are you sure you installed Lobjects into the same folder that MaxMSP runtime is in?
on 05.07.2007 07:59
well nibler works! i think i had an older LSwap at least when i (re)intalled it it works only with monomeserial not wit serialio thanks
on 08.07.2007 02:09
yes, nibbler will not work with serialio, as it uses the prefix /nib the new version is coming along well and going to be pretty kickass. i added ADSR and am working on the presets right now.
on 18.07.2007 01:58
newest version. i still haven't gotten all of the kinks out of the presets, and there might be some bugs in the ADSR, but it works well for the most part. the X box labeled "en" is a release enable that doesn't work. with "en" checked, the release of a button on the monome will trigger the release envelope, making the sound stop. with "en" unchecked the sound will stop as given by the "end time" or sound file graphic. again, this doesn't work properly right now. it works right unenabled, but doesn't properly release when enabled. lights still don't work, and i'm not 100% sure how i want to implement them. it will involve blinking on some level, just not sure how. i'm not sure how it will work on windows, so i'd definitely appreciate any feedback in that area.

My Max Runtime is telling me errors too. I dropped the "Lswap.mxo" in the Folder ~/Applications//MaxMSP Runtime 4.6/Cycling '74/externals/... Is that right ? Thanx for help.
on 21.07.2007 12:20
"•error_ Lbuild: No such object" This error line appears ca. 50 times.
on 21.07.2007 17:48
ah. i guess i need to include Lbuild too. try downloading Lobjects from here: http://arts.ucsc.edu/ems/music/research/Lobjects.readme.html
on 02.08.2007 19:11
i use it a lot and i like it but how is it going with nibbler the lights etc i would like visual feedback and what is the rec? oh and could some nibbles be run in synq with an other? regards

a note from a PC user... all these mac OS specific files need to be cleaned out before the files can be unzipped, dunno what the files are about but I'm experiencing OS angst. looks like a very fun program, working on getting it going now. thanks for the new updates and all your work kevin! edit - ugh... deleting the files from the archive seems to have locked up my computer, just a 'deleting from archive' message. help?
on 02.08.2007 22:41
ayeee. i'm glad someone on a pc is finally taking a look at the nibs.. are you getting errors on any files in particular? really none of the files should be mac os specific except for the Lobjects. so, here is a zip without the Lobjects. i'm not sure if this will help? to pieck: during the early stages, i was thinking about integrating a sample recorder into nibbler, which is why the "rec" and "stop" buttons are there. they will probably disappear in the future and i will include the Quickrecord patch that comes with max in the bundle of stuff. i'm working on a sequencer for triggering nibbles. is this what you mean by running in sync? or do you mean beat synchronization across multiple loops? cause that's a little bit more difficult.
on 02.08.2007 22:50
very cool. :) I get file not found errors, stuff like that. thanks for the quick turnaround on that. I'm back at work (I went home at lunch to play) but will check it out later tonight.
on 03.08.2007 02:40
it seems that not all LObjects are ported to windows. i started downloading them, im gonna try nibbler as soon as i get them up. sorry i havent sooner kevin, been so busy lately.
on 03.08.2007 03:10
copying the new files over, the presets file gets the error "the system cannot find the file specified" the rest copy fine. ...have to reboot, will update as I try more. new GUI looks much improved. LSWAP - no such object. I did the download of the other external files into the max/msp directory. shit, well, lots of other to try out, let me know if there's any other testing I can try out, more than glad to help out. btw monome serial with _midi test from the 4_0_0_0 base patches doesn't light anything on the screen, the buttons and LEDs work fine, but the GUI's not responding. 'sall good, beta testing on a large project. please feel free to use me as a test rat.
on 03.08.2007 06:56
yes a sequencer will be fine to... i was experimenting with radial and you could see the radials as a sort of nibbles .. there they could run in sync....but i can't get the monome conected with some clicks when i push the buttons so i dont use it that much with the monome.... some sample recording would be nice to but/and what i really would like is that you can sync-loop say nibble 1 and and in an totaly other tempo nibble 2 and 7 well something like that... i'm not a programmer so for me everything you do for us is a big thank you!
on 08.08.2007 05:18
hot shit. i just got 64step to control nibbler. i'm shitting bricks. now to get it to go the other way around! and then to finalize the user interface! (and then to implement swing...) weeeeeee!!!
on 11.08.2007 18:31
is it required to have the monome plugged in to work. i followed your instructions above (i also installed lobjects) it clearly loads the audio file but manually pressing the buttons does nothing.
on 11.08.2007 20:30
yeah, for some reason manually clicking the buttons doesn't trigger the sample (even though i think it's supposed to on mouse-up, the way i programmed it). in the next version, clicking the buttons only brings up the effects panel for that button, and the sound can only be triggered from the monome. the _40h_fake.mxb patch should work fine with it if you can change the prefix to /nib
on 12.08.2007 01:58
sweet… thanks my monome's case is still under construction and until its finished ill be toying around with these greats apps in anticipation of something i can mash on.
on 16.08.2007 19:34
unfortunately very very slow. i have been swamped with schoolwork for the past week. next week my life gets a lot nicer, and i'll have time to finish this up. sorry for the delay.
on 23.08.2007 08:52
no sequencing yet. i'm actually working on tying nibbler to 64step (in somewhat of a hack) right now. school is finally done for a month!
on 30.08.2007 03:51
i appreciate the enthusiasm.. nothing is done yet though. basically i'm dealing with a lot of brainstorming to figure out how to implement presets (i.e. treat patterns in 64step separately from sound banks in nibbler, or bundle them all together). there's also the issue of getting presets to work in the first place. lately, in attempts to further abstract the elements of the program, i made it crash and throw a shit fit. i did figure out how to substantially lower the amount of bpatchers by writing a dynamic route object though.
